Our first bakery shop location finds itself on East London’s bustling Broadway Market – home to local establishments such as fish mongers, butchers, restaurants, bookshops and gents barbers, all culminating around the weekly rush and buzz of Saturdays market stall trading. Local trading has existed in some form here for nearly 500 years, and for the last 50 years or so has seen mixed fortunes along with the rise and fall of the local neighbourhood. Broadway Market in its current form is a triumph of local residents and traders continuing the non-corporate story of the street into the modern day. Being part of this community and its continued rejuvenation is an honour: something we have benefitted from and love giving back to.
The simple idea behind our Broadway Market and Columbia Road sister sites came from distilling the communal notion of park culture into an old fashioned style bakery setting, where you can grab your fresh bread, pastries and top notch coffee on the go, as well as quality sourced goods such as seasonal jams or our own no nonsense peanut butter. We offer fairly priced goods with fast, efficient and friendly service. At lunch times we don’t only offer fresh baguettes filled with seasonal ingredients, but also our much loved Sri Lankan dahl.
Come to Broadway on a Saturday, walk through the market stalls, grab your weekly organic veg, an interesting read and some stinky cheese. Drop in and visit us for a loaf, an espresso, a Swedish cardamom bun and a chat with Tony, or another one of our regulars.
